The Braylon Meade Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Kehoe-Meade family established a scholarship fund in memory of Braylon. The fund provides need-based scholarships to graduates of Arlington County’s public high schools. Braylon’s siblings, Bryan and Kerry, and his parents firmly believe that this scholarship fund will perpetuate one of Braylon’s passions, which was to lift up those in need.
The Fund awards three different scholarships to students who meet the following criteria:
-
for a Washington-Liberty high school senior who was on the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team for at least one year, has financial need, and a GPA of 2.0 or higher
-
for a Washington-Liberty high school senior who has participated on any W-L sports team, has financial need, and a GPA of 2.0 or higher
-
for an Arlington Public School student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Each scholarship is $2,500 and valued at up to $10,000 if renewed for a total of 4 years

"It's a difficult task to put the weight of this scholarship into words. I still remember the day we found out about Braylon's accident. The unsettling idea that this could happen to anyone, regardless of how kind, caring or generous you are stuck with me. I began trying to envision what legacy I would leave behind. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that whether my legacy begins tomorrow or at 80 years old, I can only hope that it is half as touching as Braylon's continues to be. I feel incredibly honored to have received this scholarship, and I will do my best to uphold his remarkable legacy day in and day out. "

"I cannot begin to express enough the amount of gratitude I feel for being selected as a recipient of the Braylon Meade Memorial Scholarship. Due to my financial status, I never imagined I would be able to attend a school like the University of Michigan. However, Ms. Kehoe and Mr. Meade opened up that opportunity for me and allowed me to focus more on my studies and my personal growth as a student. With this scholarship, I hope to uphold Braylon's memory and legacy every day even after receiving my post-secondary education."

"Words cannot express how grateful I am for the Braylon Edward Meade Scholarship. Because of their support, I’ve been able to follow my dream of studying biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan, cheered in the Big House with over 110,000 fans, and met some of the sweetest, most inspiring people. None of this would have been possible without the BEM scholarship, kindness and belief in me, and I am endlessly grateful for the chance to grow and learn with their support. I hope to embody the kindness, hard work, and empathy that Braylon brought to the Washington-Liberty community here at the University of Michigan."
